Walid Al-Saqaf
Walid Al-Saqaf is a Senior Lecturer at Södertörn University in Stockholm where he specializes in Innovation and the use of the Internet and media technology for journalism, access to information, freedom of expression and public good. As a dual Yemeni/Swedish citizen, his passion is in promoting a strong and open Internet that netizens can build bridges between cultures and promote democratization and free speech across the globe.
Featured by CNN, the Guardian, the Huffington Post and other media. His efforts have earned him recognition through several awards including a TED 2012 senior fellowship and Örebro University's 2010 Democracy Award.
Walid is also engaged in several initiatives to promote innovation and creativity in technology among the youth as he organized TEDxSanaa 2012 and 2013, founded Sanaa Hub as part of the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum and co-founded and led Yemen's Internet Society Chapter for which he built a robust core team that was able to make ISOC-Yemen one of the most active chapters in the Middle East. He has served as the chairman of the advisory board at iRise Hub since 2018, the first innovation hub founded in Somalia. Walid's unique position as a scholar based in Sweden as well as a pro-free speech cyber activist and software developer of Arab background have jointly helped him develop a wide a range of skills and expertise to contribute to technical and policy discussions around Internet-related issues on several platforms such as ICANN, RIPE, IGF, and the World Wide Web Foundation. This helped him build bridges between developing and developed countries when it comes to addressing key issues that concern Internet users around the world.
Beyond research, Al-Saqaf's interests focus on the non-commercial use of ICTs and its impact on democracy and promotion of development. As a member of the global technical community, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Internet Society (ISOC) and is Vice President of the ISOC Blockchain Special Interest Group.

Maike van Ueuem
Maike van Ueuem is a seasoned international development expert with over 13 years of experience, currently serving as the Head of Project at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. In this role, Maike leads the "Strengthening the Health System in Yemen" project, where she oversees the design and implementation of strategies in health, water, and social services, with a focus on inclusion, gender equality, mental health, and social cohesion. Her leadership extends across culturally diverse teams in multiple locations, including Sana'a, Ibb, Aden, and Frankfurt. Maike's work is pivotal in ensuring the technical and financial success of the program while maintaining strong partnerships and reporting to the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Prior to her current role, Maike held several key positions within GIZ, including Deputy Head of Project for the Cross-Border Collaboration Programme in Western Ethiopia & Eastern Sudan, and Deputy Head of Project supporting the African Governance Architecture at the African Union. Throughout her career, Maike has demonstrated expertise in conflict transformation, governance, capacity building, and program management, working closely with international organizations, governments, and community structures.
In addition to her work with GIZ, Maike has been an advisory board member at iRise Hub since 2019, Somalia's first established innovation hub. Her involvement with iRise Hub highlights her commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in challenging environments.

Abdigani Jama
Abdigani Jama is a seasoned leader with over 27 years of experience in the telecommunications and ICT sectors. He currently serves as the CEO and Chairman of Astisnet East Africa Ltd, a role he has held since 1997. Throughout his distinguished career, Abdigani has played a pivotal role in shaping telecom policies and regulations across Africa, particularly in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
As the former ITU Chairman for 49 LDCs, Abdigani has been instrumental in driving telecommunications development in these regions, working closely with global organizations such as the World Bank, the European Space Agency (ESA), and Astrium - EADS. His expertise extends to consulting on ICT infrastructure development, a critical component for post-conflict recovery and economic revitalization.
Abdigani also served as the Secretary General of the Somalia Telecommunication Industry (STA), where he was a key figure in advancing ICT policy and regulation in Somalia. His extensive experience and leadership in the telecom industry have made him a respected authority in the field, contributing to significant advancements in ICT across Africa.
In addition to his role at Astisnet, Abdigani serves on the advisory board of iRise Hub, the first incubation center in Somalia. iRise Hub is a launching pad for Somali innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological leap-frogging. It is a vibrant community of pioneers and social disruptors dedicated to driving economic prosperity in the region.
Abdigani holds a wealth of knowledge and experience, making him a leading voice in the telecommunications industry. He is dedicated to leveraging technology as a tool for sustainable development and continues to influence the industry through his work at Astisnet East Africa Ltd and beyond.
